Cambodia Angkor Air set to launch flights to India in mid-June.

Phnom Penh: Cambodia Angkor Air is ready to launch direct flights to India mid June, 2024, Accroding to Under-Secretary of State and Civil Aviation spokesman Sin Chanserivutha.

He said Indian carrier IndiGo has been allowed by the two governments to launch direct flights to Cambodia from October 2024.

“On June 16, Cambodia Angkor Air will launch direct flights to India three times a week,” he said. “On June 14, the company will officially launch its first flight in India to promote the flight program,” he added.

Regarding IndiGo’s flight program to Cambodia, Mr. Sin Chanserivutha confirmed that if nothing changes, the Indian company will launch direct flights from New Delhi to Siem Reap and from Mumbai to Siem Reap in October 2024 scheduled 7 flights a week.

“The launch of round-trip flights between Cambodia and India will be opportunity for Cambodia to attract more Indian tourists to Cambodia, while this year is the year that Cambodia organized the “First Cambodia-India Tourism Year” campaign.

At the same time, Ms. Chhay Sivlin, President of the Cambodian Tourism Association, said that India is the largest tourism market for the world after China. Therefore, the opening of direct flights between Cambodia and India is a good sign to attract Indians to visit Cambodia.

She said that after the plan to launch direct flights between Cambodia and India was announced, the Cambodian Tourism Association had signed a number of agreements
and received many inquiries about Indian visitors visiting Cambodia. “Prices and services, as well as tourism products.”

She said that if India is interested only 5% to 10% will contribute to the growth of the Cambodian economy through tourism, while in the past, Cambodia received only a moderate number of Indian visitors due to the lack of direct flights and those who can

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, in 2023, Cambodia received a total of more than 5.4 million tourists, including nearly 70,000 Indians. In the first quarter of 2024, Cambodia received a total of nearly 1.6 million tourists, including 20,000 Indian tourists.
