Aviation official sees Cambodia’s air transport sector would be recovered by 2027

Phnom Penh: Undersecretary of State and Civil Aviation spokesman Sin Chanserivutha said that in the next three years, in 2027, Cambodia’s air transport sector may recover as in 2019. According to Mr. Sin Chanserivutha told a local reporter  over the weekend.

Mr. Sin Chanserivutha said Cambodia had previously predicted and concluded the recovery after Covid-19 100% was in 2024 or early 2025, but after review due to various crises.

“According to the new forecast of the International Transport Association, Cambodia’s growth will recover to 2019 in 2027,” he said.

Mr. Sin Chanserivutha said that today, the air transport sector in Cambodia has a recovery of about 63 percent in 2024. Therefore, it is not until 2027 that the air transport sector in Cambodia recovers 100 percent, equivalent to 2019.

In 2019, the number of passengers passing through Cambodia’s international airport was nearly 12 million. Phnom Penh International Airport receives 6.02 million passengers, Siem Reap International Airport receives 3.92 million passengers.

Mr. Sin Chanserivutha explained why the government allows private investment in airports, while airport development helps boost economic activity, especially around the airport.

He said the study found the provision of public services is less effective than the provision of private services because the private sector has both financial and human resource management, and the efficiency of implementation can be less budget and higher efficiency. . So after this study, some countries in the world have turned from providing services from the state to private services.

He said that participating in economic development through the construction of the first international airport to attract investors to develop the country. Cambodia and secondly, directly creating thousands of jobs and creating many indirect jobs, especially the area around the airport is also developing, such as industrial zones, economic zones and other urban areas.
